Depth of field
This determines how much of your image is in focus.
It is controlled by changing the aperture
A wide aperture (F 1.8) will give a shallow depth of field. Basically a small amount in focus.
A small aperture ( F 22 ) will give give a full depth of field, most of the image is in focus.
The area within the depth of field appears sharp, while the areas in front of and beyond the depth of field appear blurry.
