 Martin Parr

Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer, photojournalist and photobook collector. He is known for his photographic projects that take a critical look at aspects of modern life, in particular provincial and suburban life in England. Wikipedia

At home and abroad, Martin Parr is one of Britain's most famous photographers. He has chronicled our everyday life since the 1970s

Parr photographs common and mundane things that make the most interesting and meaningful images.

Born 1952 to a middle class family in Epsom Surrey.
·         He studied at Manchester Polytechnic
·         His inspiration came from his grandfather George Parr
·         1970s, Parr’s work was solely in black and white
·         1980s Parr was inspired by photographers such as William Eggleston
·         Martin Parr’s photographs often exaggerate and reveal that we live in a problematic world of consumerism and propaganda
·         His photos show society’s consumption habits

Parr is a prolific photographers and only considers 10 photos a year

My thoughts

Parr has turned his relentlessly curious eye on all eccentricities and vulgarities of every class and every corner of Britain.

I find Martin Parr’s work fascinating because he is making strong statements about society and consumption through photographing everyday things from his critical view point.

It is interesting how his pictures gives you the viewer a sense of “being there” in the midst of all the action.

I think Parr photographs common and mundane things that make the most
    interesting and meaningful images.

Parr now gives us his photographic portrait of Atlanta, Georgia, "the symbolic capital of the American south".  grease-stained mouths devouring greasy snacks – it is a depiction of everyday American excess.
