Manchester Art Gallery

Manchester Art Gallery (October 2012)

Here, you'll find everything from historic paintings to international contemporary art.

There are three floors to discover. 21 rooms. Over 25,000 items.

Below are some photographs of things i found interesting:-

Beatrice Coron

"My work tells stories. I invent situations, cities and worlds to be explored to make sense of our own."
Born in France, but now based in New York,"

Beatrice Coron depicts the built and natural environment in epic format. Her silhouettes are fantastical and disturbing places with elaborately detailed vignettes of numerous figures going about their daily lives.
Multiple Occupancy
Single Occupancy

Coron says the images are already inside the paper and she only has to remove what is not in the story.
She uses Tyvek (flash-spun, high density polyethylene fibres) which is stronger and more durable than paper and good for large scale work.

Chaos City is an urban planning nightmare, a vision of numerous multiple occupancy homes overlapping, cheek by jowl. The sense of disorder, turmoil and instability prompts the question is this what it feels like to live in a city??
